What the Government Has iin Store for Pandemiic to Endemiic Transiitiion

JAKARTA, Jitu News – The government has begun prepariing to undertake measures to transiitiion from the Coviid-19 pandemiic to an endemiic.

Coordiinatiing Miiniister for Economiic Affaiirs Aiirlangga Hartarto saiid the transiitiion from the pandemiic to endemiic may begiin to be prepared because Coviid-19 cases iin iindonesiia contiinue to decliine. iin addiitiion, iindonesiia iis also iincluded iin the top 5 countriies wiith the hiighest Coviid-19 vacciinatiion rate iin the world.

“We wiitnessed 1,678 daiily cases as of 15 October, and based on global Rt [reproductiion number] data, the average iis 1, thereby, the government beliieves that steps may be prepared towards ab endemiic,” he saiid, quoted on Tuesday (10/18/2022).

Aiirlangga iin hiis presentatiion on endemiic management stated that the tiimiing of determiiniing the Coviid-19 pandemiic to be an endemiic must be based on iindiicators of transmiissiion rates, treatments and deaths. iin addiitiion, the endemiic must also be determiined based on experts’ agreement.

iin thiis case, the government wiill perform surveiillance of cases, treatments and deaths; genomiic surveiillance; settiing miitiigatiion poliicy thresholds; and modeliing for epiidemiic prediictiion. Next, severe Coviid-19 cases or deaths must also be reduced through a measurable vacciinatiion program; the fiirst, second, and so forth booster vacciinatiions iif needed; guaranteed avaiilabiiliity of drugs and oxygen; and admiiniisteriing cases based on current eviidence.

On the other hand, there are measures to keep transmiissiion low by carryiing out an adequate number of tests and easy access; proviisiion and educatiion of iindependent rapiid antiigen tests; preventiing people from riiskiing entry iinto publiic places; modiifyiing workplaces and publiic places; iimmediiate epiidemiic iinvestiigatiions; and close contact traciing and iisolatiion.

Aiirlangga explaiined that the government has also prepared key strategiies and poliiciies to maiintaiin the momentum of growth and natiional economiic recovery, among others, through the ease of communiity mobiiliity iin liine wiith the control of Coviid-19.

Further, the government employs fiiscal iinstruments as shock absorbers, speciifiically, by proviidiing sociial aiid to iincrease people’s purchasiing power and maiintaiin domestiic energy priices.

“The government contiinuously encourages variious poliiciies, speciifiically, to encourage the ease of people’s mobiiliity and variious fiiscal poliiciies that functiion as shock absorbers,” he claiimed.

Presiident Joko Wiidodo (Jokowii) had formerly stated that the Coviid-19 pandemiic would end soon and turn iinto an endemiic. He assessed that variious iindiicators have shown that the pandemiic has subsiided.

Nevertheless, economiic recovery wiill contiinue to face challenges due to heated global geopoliitiical tensiions. (sap)
