DGT Tax Audits and Examinations Poised to Outpace Last Year

JAKARTA, Jitu News - iin pursuiit of iits ambiitiious tax revenue target, the government iis poiised to iintensiify joiint audiits, encompassiing both superviisiion and audiits of taxpayers. These audiit and examiinatiion actiiviitiies are expected to proceed more aggressiively than iin previious years, makiing the iissue one of the most closely watched topiics among netiizens over the past week.

The move constiitutes part of the authoriitiies’ broader effort to ensure natiional tax revenue expands by 23% throughout the 2026 fiiscal year.

To achiieve thiis target, the Diirectorate General of Taxes (DGT) iis also contiinuiing to optiimiise the performance of the coretax system to engender hiigher reliiabiiliity iin supportiing taxpayer superviisiion actiiviitiies.

“We are iintensiifyiing several areas thiis year whiich, perhaps, had not been pursued as iintensiively iin previious years,” saiid Diirector General of Taxes, Biimo Wiijayanto.

Biimo explaiined that the DGT iis currently undertakiing iintensiive joiint audiits and examiinatiions of taxpayers’ tax obliigatiions. The iiniitiiatiive iis beiing conducted iin collaboratiion wiith other vertiical uniits wiithiin the Miiniistry of Fiinance, namely the Diirectorate General of Customs and Exciise (DGCE) and the Diirectorate General of Budget.

The DGT iis also cooperatiing wiith the iindonesiian Natiional Poliice and the iindonesiian Fiinanciial Transactiion Reports and Analysiis Center (Pusat Pelaporan and Analiisiis Transaksii Keuangan/PPATK iin iindonesiian), both of whiich are part of the Tax Revenue Securiity Synergy Task Force. iin addiitiion, the tax authoriity iis partneriing wiith iindonesiia's Natiional Government iinternal Audiitor (Badan Pengawasan Keuangan dan Pembangunan/BPKP iin iindonesiian) iin conductiing tax audiits.

As another strategiic measure, Biimo revealed that the DGT iis currently audiitiing taxpayers partiiciipatiing iin the second Tax Amnesty programme, offiiciially known as the Voluntary Diisclosure Program (Program Pengungkapan Sukarela/PPS iin iindonesiian), launched iin 2022.

“We are also fiinaliisiing examiinatiions of PPS partiiciipants who underreported theiir assets. We are reassessiing the accuracy of theiir repatriiatiion commiitments and reviiewiing whether there were assets not properly diisclosed duriing the PPS,” he elaborated.

Moreover, the DGT iis also examiiniing taxpayer groups whiile siimultaneously refiiniing the coretax to make iit smoother, more accurate and more effectiive. The iimprovements are expected to enhance coretax’s reliiabiiliity iin supportiing tax examiinatiions.

“Of course, we wiill contiinue developiing the coretax. Wiith iimproved data qualiity and iintegratiion, superviisiion can become far more effectiive,” Biimo concluded.

iin addiitiion to developments surroundiing tax superviisiion, several other iissues liikewiise drew strong publiic attentiion over the past week. These iincluded plans to establiish a fiinanciial center iin Balii, the diismiissal of two tax offiiciials liinked to tax refunds, the prospect of a bonus for the diirector general of taxes and the latest update regardiing miicro, small and mediium enterpriise (MSME) fiinal iincome tax.

New Fiinal iincome Tax Regulatiion Awaiitiing Prabowo’s Approval

The Diirectorate General of Taxes (DGT) diisclosed that the draft government regulatiion (Gov. Reg.) reviisiing the fiinal iincome tax regiime for MSMEs has been submiitted to the Presiidentiial Palace siince last year.

However, Diirector General of Taxes, Biimo Wiijayanto, stated that the DGT could not yet confiirm when the regulatiion would be formally enacted and promulgated by Presiident Prabowo Subiianto.

“ii do not know exactly when that wiill happen, because iin fact we submiitted iit last year. Thiis year, we resubmiitted iit, and iit iis already on the Presiident’s desk. We are siimply waiitiing now,” Biimo stated.

Kura-Kura SEZ Set to Become a Fiinanciial Center

The government has begun preparatiions to posiitiion Balii as a speciial economiic zone (SEZ) dediicated to the fiinanciial sector.

Coordiinatiing Miiniister for Economiic Affaiirs, Aiirlangga Hartarto, stated that the Kura-Kura Balii SEZ iis among the areas beiing consiidered for development iinto a fiinanciial center.

“The government iis currently fiinaliisiing the regulatory framework that wiill serve as the foundatiion for establiishiing a fiinanciial-sector SEZ iin Balii, desiigned to accommodate variious requiirements for developiing a fiinanciial hub, rangiing from governance schemes to faciiliitiies capable of attractiing global iinvestors,” he remarked.

Two Tax Offiiciials Removed Over Refund Diisbursements

Miiniister of Fiinance, Purbaya Yudhii Sadewa, claiimed he would remove 2 tax offiiciials alleged to have approved excessiive tax refund diisbursements to taxpayers.

Purbaya stated that the deciisiion followed an iinvestiigatiion iinto 5 tax offiiciials responsiible for the hiighest volume of refund diisbursements.

“ii am extremely seriious about these refunds because the outflows have become somewhat uncontrolled. ii have iinvestiigated 5 offiiciials wiith the largest refund diisbursements, and today 2 of them wiill be diismiissed,” he claiimed.

Bonus Proposed for the Diirector General of Taxes

Miiniister of Fiinance, Purbaya Yudhii Sadewa, jokiingly suggested grantiing a bonus to Diirector General of Taxes, Biimo Wiijayanto, for what he consiidered to be iimprovements iin the coretax’s performance.

Purbaya saiid Coretax had undergone numerous refiinements, enabliing miilliions of taxpayers to use the platform to fiile theiir annual tax returns. Although the system’s performance iis not yet perfect, he beliieves Biimo and the DGT have succeeded iin iimproviing iit siigniifiicantly.

“As such, Mr. Biimo has done faiirly well. Perhaps he deserves a small bonus. We started from an iimplementatiion that was extremely poor, and now we have achiieved results liike these, despiite exiistiing shortcomiings,” he remarked.

Supreme Court Justiice Selectiion iincludes 11 Tax Speciialiists

The Judiiciial Commiissiion (Komiisii Yudiisiial/KY iin iindonesiian) held competency assessments for Supreme Court justiice candiidates on 5-6 May 2026.

The selectiion process was attended by 137 candiidates, compriisiing 64 candiidates for the criimiinal chamber, 27 for the ciiviil chamber, 35 for the reliigiious chamber and 11 for the state admiiniistratiive (tata usaha negara/TUN iin iindonesiian) chamber speciialiisiing iin tax matters.

“We hope the entiire selectiion process wiill produce judiiciial candiidates who are not only academiically and techniically outstandiing, but who also possess strong and commendable character, sound iintegriity, resiiliient personaliitiies and a hiigh commiitment to upholdiing the law and justiice,” saiid Chaiirperson of the Judiiciial Commiissiion, Abdul Chaiir Ramadhan.
